![]() ![]() Generally in Indexed systems, either the shifting or the derailleur component contains the indexing logic. New generation 8speed Syncro shifters as well as the all new ErgoPower Integrated Shifting / Brake Lever are paired to 8sp Campagnolo rear derailleurs only. ![]() With the introduction of 8sp Syncro and ErgoPower shifters as well as 8sp specific Rear Derailleurs Campagnolo finally stepped away from it's attempt to make its shifting systems backwards compatible with older derailleurs. Campagnolo did come to market with one feature that Shimano did not have: both the brake and shift cables were aero routed under the handlebar tape. The integration of the shifters with the brake levers in Shimano's STI system was an obvious huge step forward over downtube and barend shifters. ![]() I first built my current frame with 8 cogs Chorus/Athena in 1997 moved on to 9 with a new index cam and freehubs when Campagnolo discontinued my favorite cassette in 2000 or 2001 and migrated to 10 in 2012 with NOS 2010 Centaur Ulrashift levers and Record Titanium derailleurs when I broke a discontinued shifter spring.Once again Campagnolo was beat to market by Shimano with a new era in shifting system technology. 2010 Veloce/Centaur would be ideal with Ultrashift mechanisms but without the 2009 soft index detents, although anything not escape or PowerShift would be fine.Ĭurrent 10 speed levers are all PowerShift and incapable of shifting more than one cog smaller per lever actuation.įor 11 I wouldn't run less than Chorus levers and the matching derailleurs with higher spring tension for better reliability with UltraShift levers. If upgrading to 10 speed I'd buy used levers off ebay. ![]() That will save you the trouble of rebuilding your rear wheel. With Campagnolo hubs you only need the freehub. Campagnolo changed the actuation ratio with the move to 10 speeds to get more travel.Ī new front will be more reliable with its thinner cage. The Campagnolo 9/10/11 freehub is 1mm wider than 8, and with 10/11 the big cog hangs off the end. ![]()
